08 July 2024

We are thrilled to announce that our project, Villa Berkel, has been selected for the prestigious National Steel Prize in the Netherlands, by Bouwen Met Staal. This modern architectural project, built using our advanced light steel frame construction system, is the perfect example of the synergy between aesthetics, energy efficiency, and engineering excellence.

Villa Berkel, is built entirely in a structural steel frame construction system. Cold-formed steel in combination with hot-rolled steel, has made it possible push the boundaries of architectural creativity.

The project is located in the Nieuwe Warande area of Berkel-Enschot, designed by BAAS Architecten and structurally engineered by Burinco,  KG-Staalframebouw, played a key role in the execution, while beSteel was responsible for the design and fabrication of the steel frame showcasing the flexibility and strength of our light steel frame system.

General information about this modern architectural project

  • Steel construction details – The structure combines lightweight steel framing with hot-rolled steel to form the shell. This method is employed in cavity walls, internal leaves, floor slabs, roofs, and canopies.
  • Architectural concept – The villa’s design focuses on light, air, and space. Continuous lines and rounded intersections create a seamless flow and enhance the connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
  • Structural details – The first floor features a cantilevered design with beams and columns hidden within walls and floors. This allows for structural glass corners without visible supports, maintaining the open aesthetic.
  • Implementation aspects – The construction process involved prefabricating the steel frame first, followed by the installation of frames and systems in a continuous, efficient sequence.
  • Functional aspects – The villa offers unobstructed views from every room and corridor. The integration of installations within the steel frame shell eliminates the need for visible structural elements.
