What makes the Wako project stand out?
A closer look at the design
For the Wako project, located in Suarlée, Belgium, beSteel designed and built an innovative steel frame structure for the construction of new offices adjoining a production hall. The project, led by Atelier d’Architectes Aristo, combines bold design with constructive efficiency.
How does steel frame enhance technical & aesthetic design?
The building features several striking architectural elements:
- Overhangs: located on the north and south facades, they provide a strong visual signature to the project.
- V-shaped columns on the south facade: an aesthetic detail that also reinforces the structure.
- Wooden cladding: combined with metal framing, it creates a warm, contemporary appearance.
These features called for a structure capable of withstanding heavy loads, particularly in the office floors.

Why is steel frame the smart choice for offices?
The beSteel solution is a perfect fit with the beSteel structure. Discover more advantages of light steel frame here.
The beSteel solution was the natural choice to meet the customer’s requirements, thanks in particular to:
-
1
Lightness adapted to cantilever constraints, minimizing the impact on structural loads.
-
2
Unrivalled speed of execution: the structure was erected in just 8 days thanks to the Fabricated solution.
-
3
Reduced environmental impact: the use of lightweight steel reinforced the client’s concern to limit the project’s carbon footprint.

How did the Wako project overcome unexpected challenges and become an inspiration for the future?
The Wako project also faced unexpected challenges. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, a worldwide shortage of structural wood panels forced the customer to turn to an alternative: Fermacell gypsum boards. This choice not only solved the supply problem, but also directly met the fire-resistance requirements for the structures.
With the Wako project, beSteel has once again demonstrated the versatility and relevance of its lightweight steel solutions. This project illustrates how effective collaboration, innovative design and appropriate solutions can result in buildings that are aesthetically pleasing, functional and sustainable.
